Reactive power control strategies for UNIFLEX-PM Converter

Abstract: Abstract-The paper presents various control strategies for an advanced multilevel-based power converter. A Fuzzy Logic Control, based on power balance constrains and Proportional Reactive Power control based on a more rigorous approach, have been proposed. Two different ways to assign reactive powers have been illustrated for both the control strategies and then compared in Matlab/Simulink environment accounting two active power sets. Finally, advantages and drawbacks of the proposed strategies have been highl… Show more

“…Q1 boosts the current amplitude so that the cont power demanded by Port 2 and Port 3. In the literature, several posed to share the reactive power [77], mainly based on the follo and apparent power proportional share; (2) active and apparen fuzzy logic approach. The latter is used to provide the set poin power flow.…”

“…In [41], the control of power flow profiles has been studied in different network conditions, but the UNIFLEX converter has been allowed to operate with only two ports. In [42], the active and reactive power control capabilities of the three-port UNIFLEX configuration have been investigated, highlighting the conditions that permit to operate at a unitary power factor.…”

“…A detailed analysis has shown some boundaries on the power flow capability [41]. However, such constraints can be overcome by employing specific strategies to control the reactive power flow [30,42]. The nominal parameters of the UNIFLEX-PM converter are shown in Table 1.…”

“…Authors in [39] under a UNIFLEX project have discussed reactive power control for a three-port fully phase modular SST as illustrated in Figure 26 and presented a supervisory control to maintain reactive power between the three ports. Two methods are discussed to balance reactive power: (a) fuzzy logic control (FLC) method and (b) proportional reactive power (PRP) balancing method.…”
