Reactive Power Compensation on Egypt Electricity Network for Optimal Energy Saving

Abstract: This paper introduces the load flow on the Egypt Electricity Network system. The effect of capacitor compensation has been studied from three points. First, the problem of the series capacitor compensation was considered. The second type of compensation considered is shunt compensation. Finally, a mixed of shunt and series capacitors compensation was implemented. The analysis results were discussed based on the maximum reduction in the generated MVAR. The load variation is accounted for by considering three di… Show more

“…By understanding the importance of the Optimal Power Flow (OPF) solution for economic and reliable operation under linear load conditions, traditionally, classical or deterministic optimization techniques have been used. Recently, comparatively easier to implement heuristic methods have been preferred to undertake global search [8][9][10].…”

“…Active demand is for useful energy. Reactive demand must be managed efficiently to deliver active power efficiently, improve power quality, release system capacity, improve system stability, reduce system losses, reduce voltage deviation, and improve the system power factor [1,2]. Reactive power management is always a main concern for utilities in order to improve system security and operation; hence, optimum reactive power dispatch (ORPD) has appeared as an important solution [3].…”

“…Power loss in electric distribution systems (EDSs) takes a high portion in the total power loss of the electricity system. There are lots of techniques for reducing power loss such as distributed generation placement [1], capacitor placement [2][3][4], and network reconfiguration. Among these methods, network reconfiguration is the most efficient.…”
