Reactive Oxygen Species Modulator 1 (ROMO1), a New Potential Target for Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment

Abstract: Today, the incidence of cancer in the world is rising, and it is expected that in the next several decades, the number of people suffering from cancer or (the cancer rate) will double. Cancer is defined as the excessive and uncontrolled growth of cells; of course (in simple terms), cancer is considered to be a set of other diseases that ultimately causes normal cells to be transformed into neoplastic cells. One of the most important causes of the onset and exacerbation of cancer is excessive oxidative stress. … Show more

“…In this experiment, CYP2E1 was upregulated in the H group. One of the most important proteins in the inner mitochondrial membrane is ROS modulator 1 ( ROMO1 ), which interferes with the production of ROS, and as the rate of this protein increases, oxidative stress increases, which ultimately leads to some diseases [ 56 ]. Studies have shown that the increase in Romo1 expression enhances cellular ROS levels and oxidative DNA damage [ 57 ], which consistent with our experimental results.…”

“…In addition, it has been reported that high ROMO1 expression predicted unfavorable prognosis and lymphatic metastasis in NSCLC patients [ 20 ]. More importantly, ROMO1 has been reported to be a novel potential target for cancer diagnosis and treatment [ 21 ]. To investigate whether ROMO1 regulates the tumorigenesis of HB, both in vitro and in vivo experiments were performed.…”

“…One of the most important proteins that is involved in the production of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) is Reactive Oxygen Species modulator 1 (ROMO1). 6 7 Also known as Glyrichin, it has 79 amino acids and is located in chromosomal locus of 20q11.22. 6 ROMO1 is a mitochondrial protein that binds to some proteins of mitochondrial inner membrane and was first reported in various cancerous tissues which cause drug resistance.…”
