Reactive Extraction of L (+) Tartaric Acid by Amberlite LA-2 in Different Solvents

Abstract: The extraction of L(+) tartaric acid from aqueous solutions by amberlite LA-2 is a secondary amine mixture in different diluent solvents. Extraction equilibria of L(+) tartaric acid by amberlite LA-2 in 1-octanol, cyclohexane, isooctane, hexane, methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) solvents at temperature 298.15 K have been measured. The batch extraction experiments distribution coefficients (D), loading factors (Z) and extraction efficiency (E) were calculated. The maximum removal of L(+) tartaric acid is 91 % with … Show more

“…23 An additional merit of quaternary amines are they could extract the acid under both acidic and basic conditions. 24 Some work, for instance Jung et al (1996), 25 Marinova et al ( 2004), 26 Uslu (2007), 27 and Inci et al (2011), 28 In the present work, equilibrium studies on L(+)-tartaric acid recovery using Aliquat 336 blended with n-heptane, kerosene, and 1-octanol was studied. To date, Aliquat 336 with n-heptane, kerosene, and 1-octanol was not chosen for the extraction of tartaric acid.…”

“…Then, the formed reaction complexes are dissolved in the organic phase by means of solvents. Phosphorus-based tri- n -butyl phosphate or tri-octyl phosphine oxide, aliphatic amines of tri-n-octylamine, Alamine 336, Aliquat 336, tributyl phosphate, tributylamine, or Amberlite LA-2 are commonly used as an extractant, which can chemically complex with the acid to form acid–extractant complexes. Amberlite LA-2 (a straight-chain secondary amine mixture) is a commercial product with molecular weight of 353.67 g·mol –1 and density of 0.83 g·mL –1 at 298.15 K. Table presents a brief literature review on the reactive extraction of various acids from aqueous solutions by using Amberlite LA-2.…”
