Reactivating the Neural Dimension Role in Interactive Arts

Abstract: The author created a neural interactive artwork in the form of a holographic puzzle in an attempt to expand the functional role of the neural brain activities in the interactive artistic processes. With synchronous neural communication being the structural concept for this project, the experimental setup connects the display system of puzzle pieces with the participant’s electrical brain activities via an EEG system. This experiment reveals the effect of the functional expansion of the participant’s neural res… Show more

“…The foundation of this study was based on STEM/ STEAM education, as we deeply integrated creativity during the engineering-design process. Similar to Ahmedien's (2017) study on integrating creative processes to profoundly affect the concept of STEM via STEAM by combining art, science, and technology in a puzzle game with an EEG system. The H1 concerned the effects of participatory design on students' engineering-design behaviors.…”

“…Recently, STEM fields have been upgraded to STEAM to embrace creativity, which has been seen as one of the essential components of the arts (Clapp & Jimenez, 2016; Liu et al, 2023). For example, Ahmedien’s (2017) exciting study integrated art, science, and technology into a puzzle game and analyzed the users’ knowledge cycle, bringing creativity to knowledge production. In the field of education, developing creativity-supportive instructional methods or instruction that encourages creativity is also essential (Nazzal & Kaufman, 2020; Reiter-Palmon et al, 2009).…”

“…The research attempts to achieve new approaches to explain and document new artistic and aesthetical values, which are a result of laser light usage in contemporary artworks conceptually and practically. The theoretical outcome of the research should lead to a new classification for types of laser artworks, therefore enriching the contemporary visual arts trends by accurate analytical studies and practical experiments in laser arts (Ahmedien 2016).…”
