KN interactions are investigated via an effective non-linear chiral meson-baryon Lagrangian. The adjustable parameters are determined by a fitting procedure on the K − p threshold branching ratios and total cross-section data for p lab K ≤ 250 MeV/c. We produce predictions for the Σπ mass spectrum, and scattering lenghts a K − p , an(K − n → K − n), a 0 n (K 0 n → K 0 n), and aex(K − p → K 0 n). The KN amplitudes thus obtained, as well as those for other two-body channels (πN , N N , and Y N ) are used as input to predict the scattering length A K − d , for which we have devised a relativistic version of the three-body Faddeev equations. Results for all two-and three-body coupled channels are reported both in isospin and particle bases. All available KN data are well reproduced and our best results for the K − p and K − d scattering lenghts are a K − p = (−0.90 + i0.87) fm and A K − d = (−1.80 + i1.55) fm.

The relativistic chiral SU (3) Lagrangian is used to describe kaon-nucleon scattering imposing constraints from the pion-nucleon sector and the axial-vector coupling constants of the baryon octet states. We solve the covariant coupled-channel BetheSalpeter equation with the interaction kernel truncated at chiral order Q 3 where we include only those terms which are leading in the large N c limit of QCD. The baryon decuplet states are an important explicit ingredient in our scheme, because together with the baryon octet states they form the large N c baryon ground states of QCD. Part of our technical developments is a minimal chiral subtraction scheme within dimensional regularization, which leads to a manifest realization of the covariant chiral counting rules. All SU(3) symmetry-breaking effects are well controlled by the combined chiral and large N c expansion, but still found to play a crucial role in understanding the empirical data. We achieve an excellent description of the data set typically up to laboratory momenta of p lab ≃ 500 MeV.

The hidden-charm pentaquark P c (4450) observed recently by the LHCb collaboration may be of molecular nature, as advocated by some unitary approaches that also predict pentaquark partners in the strangeness S = −1 sector. In this work we argue that a hidden-charm strange pentaquark could be seen from the decay of the Λ b , just as in the case of the non-strange P c (4450), but looking into the J/ψ ηΛ decay mode and forming the invariant mass spectrum of J/ψΛ pairs. In the model presented here, which assumes a standard weak decay topology and incorporates the hadronization process and final-state interaction effects, we find the J/ψ ηΛ final states to be populated with similar strength as the J/ψ K − p states employed for the observation of the nonstrange pentaquark. This makes the Λ b → J/ψ ηΛ decay to be an interesting process to observe a possible strange partner of the P c (4450). We study the dependence of the J/ψΛ mass spectra on various model ingredients and on the unknown properties of the strange pentaquark.
