Reaction Pathways for fac-Os(CO)3(MeCN)Me2 with Mono- and Bidentate Ligands

Abstract: The reactions of fac-Os(CO) 3 (L)Me 2 (1a, L ) MeCN; 1b, L ) THF) with monodentate and bidentate ligands have been studied for the first time. Treatment of 1a or 1b with PPh 3 gives fac-Os(CO) 3 (PPh 3 )-Me 2 (2), which may be further reacted with Me 3 NO in acetonitrile to give the unexpected isomer cis-Os(CO) 2 (PPh 3 )(MeCN)Me 2 (3). Subsequent reaction of 3 with PPh 3 gives cis,trans-Os(CO) 2 (PPh 3 ) 2 Me 2 (4), with a further isomerization accompanying the ligand substitution. Oxidative decarbonylation o… Show more

“…The Os−C(vinyl) bond distance is on the higher end of the range from 1.897(4) Å through 2.063(10) Å to 2.115(9) Å reported in the literature. The value of the Os−C alkyl group distance is close or comparable to those observed for the Os−C methyl group (2.196(4), 2.199(4), and 2.218(3) Å) …”
