Reaction of polystyrene macroanions with poly(dimethoxyethylene) macrocations

Abstract: The reaction of polystyrene macroanions with poly(dimethoxyethy1ene) macrocations was investigated in a toluenc solution at -78 "C. The reaction products were separated according to solubilitJ-and analyzed by spectroscopic methods and GPC. I t was established that a block copolymer of cis-1,2-dimethoxyethylene and styrene is formed, which confirms previous suggestions about the high stability of an active centre in the polymerization of cis-1,2-dimetlioxyetliylene. Die Reaktion von Polystyren-Makroanionen mil … Show more

“…The analysis of these data and of the information about the copolymerization product (Table 2) leads us to an interesting conclusion. The information of further study of the behaviour of PDME macrocations will be subject of the subsequent communication [19]. This phenomenon was observed by us repeatedly in each experiment and may be interpreted by the fact t h a t in a solvent of low polarity, toluene, the active chain end should be solvated by the polar DME or the polymer and after the monomer has been consumed, b y the polymer chain alone.…”
