fone 2a (500 mg) was left under vacuum (0.1 mm) and 135-138°o vernight. The diene sublimed and was collected (300 mg, 79%). The crystalline residue (dimer) amounted to 80 mg (21%). The sublimed diene was virtually pure, the only impurities being traces of dimeric and polymeric material. The 300 mg were recrystallized from ether-hexane (without excessive heating) to give a first crop of 110 mg (melting point not detectable due to dimerization upon heating):
