Reaction of C₃ and C₄ Ketoses with Alkenals and Alkenones in Water.

Abstract

α,β-Unsaturated aldehydes (I) and (IV) react with dihydroxyacetone to give 3,7-dioxabicyclo[3.3.0]octanes (III) and (V). With α,β-unsaturated ketones tricyclic products (VII) are obtained.
