RE(OH)2NO3 (RE = Tb, Dy, Ho, and Er): Synthesis and Nonlinear Optical Properties of Water-Resistant Lanthanide Hydroxide Nitrates

Abstract: A series of lanthanide-containing water-resistant nitrates, namely RE(OH) 2 NO 3 (RE = Tb(1), Dy(2), Ho(3), and Er(4)), was obtained through the hydrothermal process. As possible nonlinear optical materials, they feature a layered isomorph composed of an [REO 3 (OH) 6 ] polyhedron and an [NO 3 ] triangle, and the synergistic arrangement of the [REO 3 (OH) 6 ] and [NO 3 ] groups in their structures leads to their obvious second-order nonlinear optical effect. Nevertheless, the unique optical absorption caused b… Show more

“…Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) measurement confirms that Ce(IO 3 ) 3 F is stable up to 420 °C, which is higher than those of Y(IO 3 ) 2 F (380 °C) and Ce(IO 3 )F 2 (H 2 O) (178 °C), and comparable with those of Ce(IO 3 ) 2 F 2 (420 °C), Li 2 Ce(IO 3 ) 4 F 2 (419 °C), and CaCe(IO 3 ) 3 (IO 3 F)F (420 °C). , , Ce(IO 3 ) 2 (NO 3 ) is thermally stable up to 275 °C, which is higher than that of In(IO 3 )(OH)(H 2 O)](NO 3 ) (150 °C), and comparable with those of RE(OH) 2 NO 3 (RE = Tb, Dy, Ho, and Er) (270 °C). , Both Ce(IO 3 ) 3 F and Ce(IO 3 ) 2 (NO 3 ) show two main weight loss steps (Figure S3). Based on the PXRD analyses (Figure S4), the residues of both compounds are CeO 2 …”

“…1,2 Achieving crystallographically noncentrosymmetric (NCS) structures is crucial for developing NLO materials. Various methods, including the incorporation of lone pair cations such as Ge 2+ , Sn 2+ , and Sb 3+ , [3][4][5] as well as d 0 transition metals such as Nb 5+ , Ta 5+ , Mo 6+ , and W 6+ , [6][7][8][9][10][11] have been explored to synthesize NCS structures. However, discovering NCS compounds in naturally occurring solid-state materials has been challenging attributed to the prevalent preference for centrosymmetric structures in crystalline solids.…”

“…Both of them display broad absorption peaks near 3200 cm −1 associated with water molecules. 51,52 The absorption bands from 1238 to 1585 cm −1 could be assigned to the asymmetric stretching of CO and C−O bonds. 53,54 The IR spectrum of Zn-LTS shows the asymmetric and symmetric stretching vibrations of [SO 4 ] group near 1293 cm −1 .…”
