RCAS1 expression in mobile tongue squamous cell carcinoma: An immunohistochemical study

Abstract: SummaryBackgroundThe receptor-binding cancer antigen expressed on SiSo cells (RCAS1) is a human tumor-associated antigen that has been considered to play a crucial role in tumor progression by enabling cancer cells to evade immune surveillance. The present study aimed to evaluate the clinical significance of RCAS1 expression in mobile tongue squamous cell carcinoma (SCC).Material/MethodsRCAS1 protein expression was assessed immunohistochemically on 49 mobile tongue SCC tissue samples obtained from an equal num… Show more

“…9 Bulk tumor FAK expression has been correlated with breast cancer progression, but definitive results vary. 6,[10][11][12][13][14][15][16] Evidence suggests that endothelial cell (EC) FAK expression levels correlate with the molecular subtype of breast cancer, indicating that EC-FAK expression is potentially more clinically relevant than tumor cell (TC) FAK expression in breast cancer. 10 Deletion of FAK in K14-positive epidermal cells reduces skin cancer progression.…”

“…Receptor-binding cancer antigen expressed on SiSo cell (RCAS1) is recognized by the monoclonal antibody 22-1-1, and was initially identified in uterine adenocarcinoma [ 1 , 2 ]. Its expression is reportedly correlated with clinico-pathological parameters in 15 human cancers, such as clinical stage, histological subtype, differentiation, tumor size, depth of invasion, lymphovascular space involvement, lymph node metastasis, and cytological results [ 3 - 20 ]. RCAS1 acts as a ligand for a putative receptor in cell lines of several human tissue types and peripheral lymphocytes, such as activated T, B, and NK cells.…”

“…However, there have been few studies on squamous cell carcinoma, especially of the head and neck. 12 In the present study, immunohistochemical methods were used to observe FOXP3 expression levels in cancer cells and lymphocytes from cervical oesophageal cancer tissue samples. The relationship between FOXP3 expression and clinical and pathological features of cervical oesophageal cancer was analysed, to investigate the biological significance of FOXP3 expression in the immune resistance of tumour cells in this cancer.…”
