Ray-tracing analysis of diffractive–refractive X-ray optics

Abstract: Ray-tracing simulations of mistuned sagittal diffractive-refractive X-ray lenses (DRXL) are presented. In this article, firstly the characteristic aberrations for various types of crystal misalignments within one-crystal and four-crystal DRXLs are considered, and the sensitivity of such an optical system to the mutual misalignment of its components is discussed. The simulations reveal that a DRXL is not too sensitive to the adjustment of its components. In the second part of this article the performance of suc… Show more

“…Ray tracing has been used in computer graphics as a technique for generating a realistic image by tracing the path of light through pixels in an image plane. In crystallography, ray tracing has been used, for example, for an analysis of X-ray optics (Yamada et al, 2001;Artemiev et al, 2004) and to research papers 536 Diederichs Simulation of X-ray frames using ray tracing Acta Cryst. (2009).…”

“…In previous simulations of the sagittal focusing due to parabolic grooves [12,13], we have used a ray-tracing code based on a rectangular shape approximation of the dynamical rocking curves, instead of, for example, the Darwin-Prince shape of a rocking curve for the coplanar case. This simplification may introduce some inaccuracy in the focus simulation.…”

“…Both Bragg (Hrdý, 1998) and Laue (Hrdý et al, 2006) diffraction approaches have been demonstrated. Based on theoretical calculations (Hrdý & Oberta, 2008) and raytracing simulations (Artemiev et al, 2004), various applications for diffractive-refractive optics were proposed and tested at synchrotron facilities. Recently, the smallest focal spot size by diffractive-refractive optics (Oberta et al, 2010) was achieved and a novel method of higher harmonics separation in space was proposed at the Swiss Light Source (SLS; Hrdý et al, 2011).…”
