Continuous urban densification exacerbates acoustic challenges for residents of housing complexes. They are confronted with higher noise immission from railway, road traffic, construction, as well as louder neighborhood acoustic environments. Thereby, not only noise immission indoors is associated with stress, annoyance, and sleep disturbance, but also the immediate outdoor living environment (e.g., courtyards, private gardens, and playgrounds, etc.) can be acoustically unpleasant and annoying. This non-exhaustive narrative review paper elaborates on the role of a number of design parameters on improving the quality of the outdoor soundscape of housing complexes: architectural and morphological design, facade material characteristics, balconies, greenery, ground, background sounds, and several factors concerning quality of sounds (e.g., multisensory perception, holistic design, the relevance of space, context, social factors, co-creation, etc.). It mainly covers literature including both acoustical (e.g., sound pressure level and room acoustical parameters) and human/perceptual (e.g., comfort and annoyance) factors. A series of recommendations are presented here as to how the semi-enclosed outdoor spaces in the proximity of residential complexes can be acoustically improved.

The aim of this article is to present the practices of spatial and temporal organization and modes of inhabitation of multi-local researchers and to show how scientists perceive their multi-local lifestyle. Materials obtained from semi-structured, problem-oriented interviews, conducted as part of the preliminary research in 2022, were used for the analysis in the article. The research focused on four aspects: spatial arrangements and time use (duration and rhythm), multi-local practices (with particular emphasis on work-related mobility practices and housing arrangements), and the construction of the meaning of multi-local arrangements. The article attempts to contextualize the practices of multilocal life in accordance with the assumption that people living in several places constantly create new spaces, not only expressed in terms of real, territorial space but also socially or culturally constructed space.

The «bricoleur» is adept at performing a large number of diverse tasks; but, unlike the engineer, he does not subordinate each of them to the availability of raw materials and tools conceived and procured for the purpose of the project. His universe of instruments is closed and the rules of his game are always to make do with «whatever is at hand», that is to say with a set of tools and materials which is always finite and is also heterogeneous because what it contains bears no relation to the current project, or indeed to any particular project, but is the contingent result of all the occasions there have been to renew or enrich the stock or to maintain it with the remains of previous constructions or destructions. The set of the «bricoleur's» means [. . . ] is to be defined only by its potential use or, putting this another way and in the language of the «bricoleur» himself, because the elements are collected or retained on the principle that «they may always come in handy». Such elements are specialized up to a point, sufficiently for the «bricoleur» not to need the equipment and knowledge of all trades and professions, but not enough for each of them to have only one definite and determinate use".Der Umfang der einzelnen Unterkapitel, bei denen ich mich mit den angewandten Methoden auseinandersetze, sind unterschiedlich umfangreich ausgefallen. Dies spiegelt weder eine Wertigkeit der Methoden wider, noch den Umfang, in dem sie Anwendung fanden. Viel eher habe ich bewusst versucht, methodologische Überlegungen an den Stellen auszubauen, an denen mein Feld diese Überlegungen erforderlich gemacht hat -diese Anforderungen variieren. Besonders augenscheinlich ist dies bei den Methoden, die im Fachzusammenhang in den Kulturwissenschaften nicht omnipräsent sind. Darunter fallen beispielsweise die Autoethnografie, die Bewegten Interviews und die Mental Maps. Auch die Fotoethnografie hat ein hohes Mass an methodisch-analytischer Auseinandersetzung erfordert, auch wenn die Analysen dieser Materialien innerhalb der Arbeit nur einen kleinen Teil ausmachen. Das Kapitel 5 stellt eine Ethnografie der praktizierenden Triathlet * innen dar, die zwar nicht alle relevanten Aspekte behandelt, doch szenenspezifische Besonderheiten herausarbeitet. Daher ist dieses Kapitel besonders umfangreich ausgefallen. Allen Kapiteln ausser der Einleitung und dem Schlussteil habe ich kurze inhaltliche Übersichten vorangestellt. Den Kapiteln 2 -4 habe ich übergeordnete Fazite angefügt, in den Kapiteln 5 und 6 finden sich derartige Zusammenfassungen zu den einzelnen Unterkapiteln -entsprechend der thematischen Weitläufigkeit dieser Kapitel. Ausserdem habe ich die aus dem Triathlon entlehnten Begrifflichkeiten, die in den Hauptüberschriften wiederzufinden sind, um Erklärungen aus dem Bereich des Triathlons ergänzt, wie im Abschnitt zum Wettkampfreglement geschehen.
