Rational Synthesis of Triangular Au–Ag2S Hybrid Nanoframes with Effective Photoresponses

Abstract: Triangular Au–Ag2S hybrid nanoframes were successfully synthesised by using Ag nanoprisms as templates through gold coating, etching and sulfuration. These Au–Ag2S hybrid nanoframes exhibit effective photocurrent responses for potential photoelectrochemical applications.

“…13,30,31 The successive process of oxidative dissolution and reductive growth reaction 32 is also similar to our serial reaction, which also contained the dissolution and growth of Au. With iterative oxidative dissolution and reductive growth reactions, one can control seed structural uniformity via the refinement process.…”

“…[51][52][53][54] Very little, however, is known about noble metal derivatives of nanocrystalline silver chalcogenides, besides the possibility to prepare a few hybrid nanostructures. [55][56][57] Interestingly, the ternary phase diagram of Au, Ag and Se shows the existence of a room-temperature stable ternary compound called fischesserite, with chemical formula Ag 3 AuSe 2 . Fischesserite is a naturally occurring mixed gold-silver selenide that crystallizes in a cubic system, with a space grup I4 1 32.…”

“…Actually, similar decrease from the photocurrent related to the linear sweep voltammograms curves to the transient photocurrent related to the J -t curves has been previously observed for the Ag 2 S-AuAg heterostructured nanowires [ 5 ] and Ag 2 S-Au hybrid nanoframes. [ 10 ] Although the exact mechanism of this phenomenon remains unclear at the present time, it could be attributed to the fast recombination of holes trapped at surface states with electrons from the conduction band in this Ag 2 S-based system. It has been documented that such a recombination of holes and electrons usually results in the photocurrent decay with time.…”

“…[ 5,10 ] Therefore, the Ag 2 S-Ag heterostructured nanobowl arrays collected on an FTO slide were directly used as a photoanode of photoelectrochemical cell (PEC) for water splitting as a proof-of-concept application, as illustrated in Figure 4 a. Upon visible light illumination, the electron-hole pairs were generated in Ag 2 S nanonets.…”
