Primordial or Big Bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) is one of the three strong evidences for the Big-Bang model together with the expansion of the Universe and the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation. In this study, we improve the standard BBN calculations taking into account new nuclear physics analyses and we enlarge the nuclear network until Sodium. This is, in particular, important to evaluate the primitive value of CNO mass fraction that could affect Population III stellar evolution. For the first time we list the complete network of more than 400 reactions with references to the origin of the rates, including ≈270 reaction rates calculated using the TALYS code. Together with the cosmological light elements, we calculate the primordial Beryllium, Boron, Carbon, Nitrogen and Oxygen nuclei. We performed a sensitivity study to identify the important reactions for CNO, 9 Be and Boron nucleosynthesis. We reevaluated those important reaction rates using experimental data and/or theoretical evaluations. The results are compared with precedent calculations: a primordial Beryllium abundance increase by a factor of 4 compared to its previous evaluation, but we note a stability for B/H and for the CNO/H abundance ratio that remains close to its previous value of 0.7 × 10 −15 . On the other hand, the extension of the nuclear network has not changed the 7 Li value, so its abundance is still 3-4 times greater than its observed spectroscopic value.

Abstract. Primordial nucleosynthesis, or Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN), is one of the three evidences for the Big-Bang model, together with the expansion of the Universe and the Cosmic Microwave Background. There is a good global agreement over a range of nine orders of magnitude between abundances of 4 He, D, 3 He and 7 Li deduced from observations, and calculated in primordial nucleosynthesis. This comparison was used to determine the baryonic density of the Universe. For this purpose, it is now superseded by the analysis of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) radiation anisotropies. However, there remain, a yet unexplained, discrepancy of a factor 3-5, between the calculated and observed lithium primordial abundances, that has not been reduced, neither by recent nuclear physics experiments, nor by new observations. We review here the nuclear physics aspects of BBN for the production of 4 He, D, 3 He and 7 Li, but also 6 Li, 9 Be, 11 B and up to CNO isotopes. These are, for instance, important for the initial composition of the matter at the origin of the first stars. Big-Bang nucleosynthesis, that has been used, to first constrain the baryonic density, and the number of neutrino families, remains, a valuable tool to probe the physics of the early Universe, like variation of "constants" or alternative theories of gravity.

The ability to now make measurements of Be and B as well as put constraints on 6 Li abundances in metal-poor stars has led to a detailed reexamination of Big Bang Nucleosynthesis in the A> ∼ 6 regime. The nuclear reaction network has been significantly expanded with many new rates added. It is demonstrated that although a number of A > 7 reaction rates are poorly determined, even with extreme values chosen, the standard homogeneous model is unable to produce significant yields (Be/H and B/H < 10 −17 when A ≤ 7 abundances fit) above A = 7 and the 7 Li/ 6 Li ratio always exceeds 500. We also preliminarily explore inhomogeneous models, such as those inspired by a first order quarkhadron phase transition, where regions with high neutron/proton ratios can allow some leakage up to A > 7. However models that fit the A ≤ 7 abundances still seem to have difficulty in obtaining significant A > 7 yields.
