Abstract:Phenylketonuria (PKU) results from congenital defects of amino acid metabolism. Accumulated phenylalanine crosses the blood-brain barrier and causes permanent brain damage, but the neuro-pathophysiology underlying phenylketonuria is not fully understood. Chemically-induced rat phenylketonuria model of both genders was generated to examine the role of inflammatory response, lipid peroxidation and oxidative stress in the prefrontal cortex. Our results showed that in phenylketonuria there was an increase in lipid… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
