Abstract:The world population growth and increased demands for limited goods consequently imply the necessity for more efficient use of materials and resources. As the novel advances in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) have totally revolutionized the numerous areas, their utilization at the same time possesses a negative influence on the human health and the environment. For that reason, the society is going toward the greener future where the usage of raw and non-renewable materials and resources will be reduced while energy consumption and pollution will be decreased. As ICT can be considered as a tool for addressing environmental problems, Green Internet of Things (G-IoT) takes one of the most important roles on the way to create a green and sustainable place for living. Big data analysis is essential in achieving valuable insights from voluminous and various GIoT generated data. The obtained knowledge enables easier decision-making, forecasting and other activities regarding smart city services, and in return contributes to a continuous improvement of G-IoT technologies. Hence, even the vision of smart and sustainable cities has already become a reality, the G-IoT approaches and insights achieved from Big data analysis will make cities significantly smarter, safer and more sustainable. This paper tries to summarize the role of novel technology advancements and Big data' achievements in the process of creating cities where the quality of life will be enhanced alongside reduced pollution and more efficient utilization of goods. It has been shown that G-IoT and Big data operating symbiotically successfully contribute to the fruition of smart and sustainable city vision.

In this work, an application of adaptive lighting system is proposed for smart homes. In this paper, it is suggested that, an intelligent lighting system with outdoor adaptation can be realized via a real fisheye image. During the implementation of the proposed method, the fuzzy c-means method, which is a commonly used data clustering method, has been used. The input image is divided into three different regions according to its brightness levels. Then, the RGB image is converted to CIE 1931 XYZ color space; and the obtained XYZ values are converted to x and y values. The parameters of x and y values are shown in CIE Chromaticity Diagram for different regions in the sky. Thereafter, the coordinate values are converted to Correlated Color Temperature by using two different formulas. Additionally, the conversion results are examined with respect to actual and estimated CCT values.

Abstract. The advent of solar energy as the best alternative to traditional energy sources has led to an extensive study on the measurement and prediction of solar radiation. Devices such as pyranometer, pyrrheliometer, global UV radiometer are used for the measurement of solar radiation. The solar radiation measuring instruments available at Innovation Center, MIT Manipal were integrated with a Raspberry Pi to allow remote access to the data through the university Local Area Network. The connections of the data loggers and the Raspberry Pi were enclosed in a plastic box to prevent damage from the rainfall and humidity in Manipal. The solar radiation data was used to validate an Artificial Neural Network model which was developed using various meterological data from 2011-2015.
