Rapid simultaneous extraction and magnetic particle-based enzyme immunoassay for the parallel determination of ochratoxin A, fumonisin B1 and deoxynivalenol mycotoxins in cereal samples

Abstract: This work describes the development of a rapid method for the extraction and the immunochemical determination of three mycotoxins, deoxynivalenol, fumonisin B1, and ochratoxin A, from cereal samples (wheat and corn flours).

“…Despite this, there is still room for improvement, particularly regarding the average length of time needed to complete an assay (approximately 4.5 h). Recently, magnetic particles‐based enzyme immunoassays (MPs‐EIAs) have been widely applied for the analysis of proteins 23–25 and small molecules 26,27 because rapid and sensitive detection can be performed by taking advantages of the high specificity of antibodies.…”

“…27 The uorometric oligonucleotide can easily conjugate with the targets, and a multi-signal model can be realized via the diversity of uorescent groups, which is benecial for the simultaneous detection of multi-components. 28 With its many advantages of efficient separation, homogeneous system, simplicity, speed, good biocompatibility and environmental friendliness, [29][30][31] the magnetic nanoparticle (MNP)-based immunoassay has been selected as an ideal and efficient strategy for monitoring hazardous chemicals. 32,33 In addition, MNPs have been applied as carriers and separators in immunoaffinity pretreatment to purify the sample extract.…”

“…At present, strengthening the synchronous detection of vomitin and its derivatives in cereals is a key measure to ensuring the health of animals and human beings. The commonly used methods for DON detection include TLC, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC), mass spectrometry (MS), gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS), etc (Almeida et al 2016;Vidal et al 2017). In addition, some rapid screening methods have been reported, such as ELISA (Li et al 2015), sidestream immunoassay (Anfossi et al 2013), Quenchbody (Yoshinari et al 2015), and surface plasmon resonance immunochromatography (Kadota et al 2010).…”
