Rapid Separation of Cerium and Molybdenum from Fission Products

Show more

“…The most widely used extractants are di-2-ethylhexyl hydrogen phosphate (HDEHP) [3,4] and amines: trilaurylamine [5] and 2-hexylpyridine [6]. However, liquid extraction methods based on tertiary amines are less used.…”

“…The need for high activity 99m Tc generators and the limited capacity of alumina for molybdate ions made 235 U fission reaction the best source to provide high specific activity "Mo [9 -13], 235 U fission reaction results in the production of more than 35 elements with approximately 200 no carrier added radionuclides including "Mo with 6.25% fission yield [1,2]. Chromatographic column techniques are generally preferred for the separation of fission-"Mo than solvent extraction [14][15][16][17][18] and precipitation [19 -22]. In this respect, "Mo was separated from different fission solutions by adsorption on alumina [23,24], silver-coated alumina [10,25], silver-coated charcoal [26,27] and organic exchangers [12,28].…”
