Rapid Removal and Separation of Iron(II) and Manganese(II) from Micropolluted Water Using Magnetic Graphene Oxide

Abstract: A novel two-dimensional carbon-based magnetic nanomaterial, magnetic graphene oxide (MGO), was prepared and then used as an efficient adsorbent. MGO showed rapid and complete removal of iron(II) (Fe) and manganese(II) (Mn) from micropolluted water bodies over a wide pH range. After saturated adsorption, MGO could be rapidly separated from water under an external magnetic field. Results of the adsorption equilibrium study indicated that the adsorption of Fe and Mn by MGO took place via monolayer heterogeneous a… Show more

“…While GO has high reusability, as its desorption percentages reached 95.45% for Au(III), 94.64% for Pd (II) and 99.37% for Pt(IV) [175]. MGO's adsorption values can be compared to those for adsorbents that have been reported before, suggesting that it could be reusable [176]. The desorption percentage of CSGO 5 remained about 95% with both Au(III) and Pd(II) after 3 cycles, showing that it is possible to successfully reuse CSGO 5 for the adsorption of both metals [177].…”

“…These inorganic materials can be mixed with GO or in situ synthesized on the [11] In our previous work, MOF-encapsulated GO yolk-shell superstructures were fabricated by a facile spray-drying method. The fabricated MOF-GO composite showed great potential in preferential adsorption and sustained release of small molecule [12].…”

“…The adsorption experiments of anionic dye RB5 were carried out in batch equilibrium mode. A (0.02 -0.1 g) sample of (TFCA) composite with 25 mL aqueous solution of a (1.2x10 -5 -5x10 -5 M) (RB5) solution at various pHs (1)(2)(3)(4)(5)(6)(7)(8)(9) reached for 120 min was adjusted by adding a small amount of HCl or NaOH solution (0.01 -0.1 M) using a pH meter. Samples were collected and filtrated through A Whatman (number 40) filter paper and the filtrates were subjected to quantitative analyses.…”
