Abstract:Endothelial monolayer permeability is regulated by actin dynamics and vesicular traffic. Recently, ubiquitination was also implicated in the integrity of quiescent endothelium, as it differentially controls the localization and stability of adhesion- and signaling proteins. We found that inhibition of E1 ubiquitin ligases induces a rapid, reversible loss of integrity in quiescent, primary human endothelial monolayers, accompanied by increased F-actin stress fibers and the formation of intercellular gaps. scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
