“…Synthesis of highly uorescent carbon dots. Nitrogen doped carbon dots (NC-dots) was prepared based on the microwave irradiation method that developed previously by He et al 59 Briey, mixture of citric acid (CA, 0.02 M) and ethylenediamine (EDA, 0.82 M) was dissolved ultrasonically into 100 ml of distilled water. A clear and light yellow solution was obtained.…”

“…CDs can be easily conjugated with targeting molecules for specific localization. For example, cyclic Arginyl-Glycyl-Aspartic acid (cRGD) peptides modified CDs showed effective accumulation on membrane surface and cytoplasm of tumor cells [106,107] . It is well known that cRGD specifically targets the integrin receptors which overexpress on the tumor cells while RGD recognize cell surface receptor integrin αvβ 3 of all cells [108].…”

“…1520 In most of the in vivo studies, however, C-dots were found to accumulate in various parts of the body without specificity. 14, 2123 The lack of specificity significantly limits their use for targeted applications, such as early detection and treatment of bone de-mineralization diseases. Only recently, interactions of C-dots with ex vivo samples, extracted and cracked bones, have been reported using C-dots functionalized with glutamic acid.…”
