“…In teleosts, short term chemical inhibition of aromatase reduces female fertility and fecundity through impaired oocyte development and reduces plasma vitellogenin levels (6)(7)(8). Long term aromatase inhibitor treatment induces more dramatic effects such as ovarian retraction followed by testis formation resulting in female-to-male sex change (9,10). Since chemical inhibitors are non-selective for the two Cyp19a1 isoforms, it only recently became possible to begin identifying their independent contributions to reproduction via the creation of zebrafish cyp19a1 -/mutant lines.…”
