Rapid Disaster Mapping through Data Integration from UAVs and Multi-sensors Mounted on Investigation Platforms of NDMI, Korea

Abstract:
Abstract. As the recent disaster is so difficult to predict when and where it would hit, so it requires paradigm for disaster shifts from response to preparedness. In order to respond this change, NDMI has studied disaster scientific investigation (DSI) technologies for revealing systematically the root cause of disaster and protecting repetitive recurrence.
The purpose of this study is to propose a convergence approach between data acquired from different types … Show more

“…As the feasible operational tools for DSI, NDMI has started to adopt and operate the various types of investigation platforms and devices: a MMS-type specialized vehicle, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), ultrasonography detector, rebar detector, etc. (Kim et al, 2018). Since flood events by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, a variety of drone have been used in the wide applications for disaster management.…”

“…As the feasible operational tools for DSI, NDMI developed a disaster investigation platform that converted a van in 2015 to investigate effectively and systematically the damage and the cause of a variety of disaster accident. This investigation vehicle is equipped with various disaster accident field investigation sensors such as MMS (Mobile Mapping System) with terrestrial LiDAR that can acquire 3D point cloud data during normal running speed, high resolution optical and thermal imaging cameras, and weather observation equipment as shown Table 1 (Kim et al, 2018).…”
