Neste trabalho avaliou-se o acúmulo de nutrientes em plantas jovens de café e em plantas daninhas cultivadas em competição com a cultura. Mudas de café arábica cultivar Mundo Novo no estádio de quatro a cinco pares de folhas completamente expandidas foram transplantadas para vasos contendo 25 dm³ de substrato. Utilizou-se o delineamento de blocos casualizados em esquema fatorial (4 x 4), com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram compostos por quatro espécies de plantas daninhas: Digitaria horizontalis, Brachiaria decumbens, Brachiaria plantaginea e Mucuna aterrima, em quatro densidades de infestação (zero, duas, quatro e seis plantas por vaso), em convivência por 90 dias com uma planta de café. Para determinação dos teores foliares dos nutrientes das plantas de café e das plantas daninhas, realizou-se coleta de folhas na parte mediana das plantas de café e das plantas daninhas. Todas as espécies de plantas daninhas, quando em convivência com o café, proporcionaram menor teor de nutrientes nas folhas da cultura, principalmente com o incremento da densidade de plantas, exceto para as concentrações de N nas folhas do cafeeiro que conviveram com M. aterrima. Os teores de nutrientes nas folhas das plantas daninhas diferiram por espécie, indicando capacidade diferenciada de ciclagem de nutrientes. As espécies daninhas destacaram-se com maior teor foliar de alguns nutrientes, sendo D. horizontalis em P e Fe, B. plantaginea em P, Mg, Mn e Zn e M. aterrima em N, Ca e Zn, independentemente da densidade de infestação.

SUMMARYNitrate reductase activity (NRA) was measured in leaves, stems, roots and nodules of four cultivars of Pisum sativum L. supplied with 2 mM KNOg and nodulated by selected Rhizobium leguminosarum strains. As a control, non-nodulated (uninoculated) plants were grown in the same nutrient medium. NRA was determined by an in vitro assay; it varied widely among strains and cultivars. Although differences in tissue NRA in nodulated plants were mainly related to cultivar genotype, nodulation much affected the distribution of NRA within the plant. There was also some cultivar x bacteria strain effect. Non-nodulated plants had higher leaf and root NRA than nodulated cultivars, but nodulated plants had twice as high stem NRA as nonnodulated plants. These differences correlated with nitrate concentrations which were depressed in leaves and roots, and increased in stems, of nodulated plants Nitrate accumulation was increased in leaves, stems and roots of nodulated plants in comparison with non-nodulated ones. There were no differences in the root to shoot ratio between nodulated and non-nodulated plants. The relationships between tissue nitrate reduction and nodulation are discussed.

Considering that nitrogen is directly related to leaf protein content, the nitrogen fertilization in Pereskia aculeata plants may affect the protein content and increase its nutritional potential. This study aimed at assessing the effect of nitrogen fertilization on mineral, protein and nitrate contents, as well as the yield of P. aculeata leaves. A randomized blocks design was used, with three replications and five treatments, consisting of increasing topdressing nitrogen doses (0-400 kg ha-1), in soil with organic matter content of 4.0 dag kg-1. Three harvests were performed for leaf analysis. No significant effect was observed for mineral and protein content or leaf fresh mass yield. The mean values for mineral composition were: 3.52 dag kg-1 of N, 0.47 dag kg-1 of P, 4.65 dag kg-1 of Ca, 0.71 dag kg-1 of Mg, 0.25 dag kg-1 of S, 36.64 mg kg-1 of Zn and 174.13 mg kg-1 of Fe. The mean content for protein was 21.86 % and the leaf fresh mass yield was 0.971 kg plant-1. K levels decreased from 50 kg ha-1 of N. Nitrate increased linearly with the nitrogen fertilization, reaching a maximum value of 78.2 mg kg-1 of fresh mass, well below the health risk threshold. It was concluded that a soil with high organic matter content does not require nitrogen fertilization. However, doses up to 400 kg ha-1 of nitrogen ensure adequate leaf yield and protein and mineral contents within the desired range for the species, being a food rich in proteins, iron and calcium.
