“…2.5 μM. Similar results were reported by Lal and Ahuja [14] who reported the propagation of Indian rhubarb ( R.emodi) on MS medium supplemented with BAP and IBA.Roggemans and Claes [15],Roggemans and Boxus [16] also reported the similar observations in R.rhaponticum;Farzamiet al [17]in R.ribes; Thomas et al [18] in R. rhubarbarum, R. rhaponticum, R. undulatum; Malik et al [19] in R. emodi also reported formation of multiple shoots on MS supplemented with BAP and IBA and Vermaet al [20]who reported formation of multiple shoots in R. emodi on MS with BAP and IAA .These reports does not agree with the results of Walkey [21]who reported plantlet formation of R. rhaponticum on LS medium.…”

“…These results are in line with that of Lal and Ahuja (1989) who reported the in vitro propagation of Indian rhubarb (R. emodi) on MS medium supplemented with BAP and IBA. Our results were also supported by various workers like Roggemans and Claes (1979), Roggemans and Boxus (1988) Lal and Ahuja (1989) reported that Kinetin did not show any response when shoot tips of R. emodi were cultured on it. It seems that it is basically the endogenous level of hormones that play a vital role in exhibiting the regeneration potential of a species.…”

“…Walkey used meristem tips for regeneration to obtain virus-free Rheum rhaponticum plants (Walkey, 1968). Later reports for in vitro multiplication and regeneration in the same species were provided by Walkey and Matthews (1979), Roggemans and Claes (1979) and Malik et al (2009). In Polygonum multiflorum, higher emodin and physcion content was recorded in 3-month-old in vitro shoots as well as 6-month-old-tissue culture-raised hardened plants compared with field-grown plants (Lin et al, 2003).…”
