Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this study is to identify and rank the enablers that promote female empowerment in the health-care sector in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Design/methodology/approach This study uses the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) to rank the enablers that promote female empowerment in the health-care sector. “…The dynamic nature of AHP methodology enables a decision-maker to revise the elements of hierarchy and modify their judgments with ease. AHP has been widely used to solve MCDM problems from diverse fields such as business performance (Cheng and Li, 2001), open-source CRM software selection (Lee et al , 2014), knowledge management (Hussain et al , 2015), residential energy management (Omar et al , 2019), family business sustainability (Oudah et al , 2018) and female empowerment in health care (Mehrajunnisa and Jabeen, 2019), among others.…”

“…AHP has been successfully implemented in various contexts by several researchers, such as Cheng and Li (2001) in business performance; Hussain et al (2015) in the manufacturing sector; Mehrajunnisa and Jabeen (2019) in female empowerment, and so on. In recent studies, AHP techniques have become one of the most widely used tools for decision-makers and researchers as an emerging solution to complex real-world and multicriteria decision-making problems (Hussain et al, 2015;Ho, 2008;Vargas, 1990).…”

“…Developed by Saaty (2008), the AHP model is highly recommended for performing complex decisions that incorporate comparing elements, which are otherwise quite challenging to quantify. This tool also helps in ranking (hierarchy) different elements of decision by comparing each potential pair within the matrix (cluster) (Mehrajunnisa and Jabeen, 2019). This study employs the AHP model to evaluate the potential enablers that can help in transforming a polluted environment into a greener environment (Razandi et al, 2015).…”
