Ranking important nodes in complex networks by simulated annealing

Abstract: In this paper, based on simulated annealing a new method to rank important nodes in complex networks is presented. First, the concept of an importance sequence (IS) to describe the relative importance of nodes in complex networks is defined. Then, a measure used to evaluate the reasonability of an IS is designed. By comparing an IS and the measure of its reasonability to a state of complex networks and the energy of the state, respectively, the method finds the ground state of complex networks by simulated ann… Show more

“…Here, we selected a common multi-objective decision method with limited options, which is, namely, the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) algorithm. The TOPSIS algorithm is currently widely used due to its superiority in the evaluation results [54][55][56], but we need to consider the data-processing problem and the weight of each index.…”

“…Locating influential nodes helps us to understand and control the processes such as epidemic disease outbreak, [5] virus propagation [6] and rumor spreading, [7] and it also plays an important role in viral marketing or accelerating information or knowledge diffusion. [8][9][10][11] So far, many achievements have been made in searching vital nodes and a variety of effective methods have been proposed. Among them, degree centrality (DC), betweenness centrality (BC) and closeness centrality (CC) are three classical measures.…”
