Raman spectroscopy of a family of organoaluminum compounds

Abstract: Raman spectroscopy was used for the study of a sequential family of organoaluminum compounds. The compounds were prepared by redistribution reactions between trimethylaluminum and tri-tertbutoxyaluminum, leading to molecules with all possible ligand combinations. In the liquid phase, these compounds exist as dimers linked by bridging ligands involved in three-center bonding. Terminal groups are exchanged first followed by the bridging groups. Characteristic group wavenumbers and molecular modes were compared a… Show more

“…Comparable structures were highlighted for (pyrrolidino) 3 Al and (piperidino) 3 Al {[( c -C 4 H 8 N) 3 Al] 2 and [( c -C 5 H 10 N) 3 Al] 2 , Table , entries 7b,c} . Finally, with aluminum alkoxide ( t -BuO) 3 Al, also an unsolvated cyclic dimer was identified in nonbasic solvent ([( t -BuO) 3 Al] 2 , Table , entry 8) …”
