Raman Spectra of [N(CH3)4]2ZnCl4 Single Crystals I. Raman Spectra of the Parent Phase

Abstract: Polarized Raman spectra of [N(CH3)4]2ZnCl4 crystals are studied in phase I in the frequency range between 10 and 3500 cm−1. An assignment of the lines observed to motion types is carried out. The sublattice of the TMA ions is found to behave as a quasi‐liquid. The distorsion of the ZnCl 42‐ tetrahedra is insignificant. A considerable orientational disorder is shown to occur in this phase.

“…The described transformation in this spectral range indicates quite clearly that the cell in phase VI is again multiplied. The transformation of dispersion curves during successive phase transitions in TMATCZn may be obtained analogously to that in [3] for the spectrum of phase I. The complete pictures of these dependences are rather cumbersome.…”

“…In view of this fact, a comparison makes sense only between the spectra of low-symmetry phases and the spectra of phase 1. In Part I of this work the identification of Raman lines has been carried out [20]. We shall use hereafter the corresponding notation.…”

“…1. DURNEV Table 1 Phases, phase transition temperatures, space groups, and superstructure wave vectors of TMATC-Zn In Part I of this work [20], we have discussed in detail the Raman spectra of TMACT-Zn in the parent phase (Pnma). The present paper deals mainly with the spectra of the low-temperature phases.…”
