Raman Sideband Cooling 171Yb+ Across Zeeman Sub-levels

Abstract: We implemented Raman sideband cooling in 171Yb+ between weakly split Zee- man states rather than across the typical 12.6 GHz hyperfine splitting and infer sub-Doppler cooling from n ¯ x , y , z = [ 29 ( 2 ) , 36 ( 16 ) , 16.2 ( 5 ) ] to [0:07(7), 2:0(1:2), 5:6(2)].
