Raman and Infrared Studies of Coupled PO4−3 Vibrations

Abstract: The vibrations of PO4−3 ions in single crystals of hexagonal Ca10(PO4)6F2 have been observed by means of polarized Raman scattering and polarized infrared reflectance. The T2(ν3) and T2(ν4) Raman vibration frequencies are each observed to split in accord with the predictions of the factor group of the unit cell. The optically active vibrational modes are also observed, and the anisotropy of the extraordinary ray frequencies have been measured. The observations are analyzed in terms of dipole–dipole interionic … Show more

“…The up-shift nearly to the longitudinal phonon frequency amounts to 62 cm −1 for SiO 2 [3], and even to 120 cm −1 for the exceptionally strong phonon of SiC [46]. For fluorapatite, infrared-active modes are known to be at 1030 cm −1 (strong), 1042.5 cm −1 (weak), and 1091 cm −1 (medium) [49], while nano-FTIR registers a strong resonance at 1063 cm −1 (as also in hydroxyapatite) and a weak one at 1090 cm −1 , as shown in Figure 12b (for comparison we also show reflectivity spectra that nearly match for both apatites). The strong near-field resonance obviously comes from the strong infrared-active mode at 1030 cm −1 , and thus is up-shifted by 33 cm −1 .…”

“…SrHPO 4 , SrCO 3 and Yb 2 O 3 were mixed and melted in the crucible before SrF 2 were added. Yb-doping level was around 1.3×10 19 ions/cm 3 , which is equivalent to 0.1% Sr 2+ ions in the site II were replaced by Yb 3+ .…”

“…Currently 7.0 cm diameter crystals are being routinely grown that yield two laser slabs of dimension 4 x 6 x 0.75 cm 3 . However, there are several issues that can affect the yield of suitable crystals [2].…”

“…1). Соответствующие различия величины R для разных источников [21,24,25] зависят не только от месторождения минерала, что обусловлено рядом факторов: дефектами кристаллической структуры апа-тита, вкраплениями другой кристаллической фазы, осо-бенностями рельефа и формы отражающей поверхности образца. Дополнительный фактор связан с различиями в качестве полировки образцов и в ориентации кристалла по отношению к электрическому вектору падающего излучения.…”
