“…Of these models, Hydrologic Engineering Center's Hydrologic Modeling System (HEC-HMS) was preferred and employed for this study. This is due the fact that HEC-HMS model is simple to operate, needs minimum input parameters, ease to calibrate and validate and more reliable than the other conceptual models (Guduru et al 2023;. The most advantageous part of HEC-HMS models is that it contains basin model manager, meteorological model manager, control specification and input data (time series, paired data and gridded data) manager separately(US Army Corps of Engineers 2016).…”

“…It has a capability of computing all the watershed hydrological processes including surface runoff at different sub-basin and junctions within the watershed and at outlet, infiltration, evapotranspiration and reservoir routing. Also the model consists of several methods that help to compute excess rainfall (loss model), direct runoff (transform model), base flow and flood routing across and along river channel (Guduru et al 2023; US Army Corps of Engineers 2016). Considering the simplicity and accuracy, soil conservation service curve number (SCS-CN), SCS-Unit Hydrograph (SCS-UH), monthly constant, and Muskingum methods were selected for excess rainfall, direct runoff, base flow estimation and flood routing respectively.…”

“…To develop a comprehensive coordination technique that connects rainfall-runoff modeling, Youssef et al [12] assessed the dangerous level of flash floods in arid places with limited or no hydrologic data using GIS methodologies and geomorphic characteristics. Guduru et al employed the HEC-HMS model to simulate streamflow, forecast flood frequency, and compare the results to statistical probability distribution functions to identify the most effective probability distribution functions to match observed streamflow data for the Meki River watershed [34].…”
