In this paper, we review both practical and theoretical assessments for evaluating radon geohazards from permafrost landforms in northern environments (>60º N). Here, we show that polar amplification (i.e. climate change) leads to the development of thawing permafrost, ground subsidence, and thawed conduits (i.e. Taliks), which allow radon migration from the subsurface to near surface environment. Based on these survey results, we conjecture that abruptly thawing permafrost soils will allow radon migration to the near surface, and likely impacting human settlements located here. We analyze potential geohazards associated with elevated ground concentrations of natural radionuclides. From these results, we apply the main existing legislation governing the control of radon parameters in the design, construction and use of buildings, as well as existing technologies for assessing the radon hazard. We found that at present, these laws do not consider our findings, namely, that increasing supply of radon to the surface during thawing of permafrost will enhance radon exposure, thereby, changing prior assumptions from which the initial legislation was determined. Hence, the legislation will likely need to respond and reconsider risk assessments of public health in relation to radon exposure. We discuss the prospects for developing radon geohazard monitoring, methodical approaches, and share recommendations based on the current state of research in permafrost effected environments.

Mineral resources exploration in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia became an important target for the Saudi government. Nowadays, the economic vision of the country is to move away from oilbased country to multisource energy-based country. In Baljurashi area there were ancient mines for Copper, Cobalt, Magnesium, Zircon, and some other minerals. In the current study, we aim to evaluate the Baljurashi area in terms of mineral resources using the advanced technique. Consequently, we carried out ground gamma ray spectrometry survey in an area of about 50 km 2 , elevation variation ranges from 380 m to 2280 m above the sea level. We used the RS-700 system to collect the gamma ray spectrometry data. In addition, we used the existing geochemical analysis results for this area and integrated the results to map the most important minerals. The integration work indicates that the area of Baljurashi is rich in mineral resources. The mineralization zones are located in the eastern part of the area where elevation is high (e.g., east of the escarpment). We also found that these mineralization zones are structurally controlled. Important mineral maps were produced (e.g. Cu, Cr, Mn, and Zr). We highly recommend more geophysical studies to evaluate the Baljurashi area for mineral identifications and quantifications.

In this paper, a methodology for solving the advection diffusion equation describing the radon transport from subsurface soil into buildings in presence of the imprecision in the measurements of model parameters such as radon diffusion coefficient and flow velocity of radon in air has been explored. Imprecision of the model parameters is addressed as a fuzzy variable and the membership function of each such fuzzy variable is expressed in the form of a triangular fuzzy number. Explicit finite difference numerical method along with fuzzy parameters of the representative model is applied to obtain the solution of the governing advection diffusion equation and due to this the present numerical approach is named as fuzzy finite difference. Uncertainty quantification of the radon concentration as solution of the governing fuzzy partial differential equation is carried out and by using this uncertainty modeling, advantage of the fuzzy finite difference approach for obtaining the numerical solution of a fuzzy partial differential equation is shown. Results of computed radon concentration with uncertainty can be possible to use for assessing further the uncertainty in health hazards.
