Abstract: In this study, radon concentration was examined in surface water samples taken from Van Lake in spring and autumn. The samples were taken along the coastline from Tatvan, where the active fault line lies, until Erciş. Arin Lake, situated in the Bitlis province, is a soda lake that holds significant ecological importance as a habitat for migratory bird species such as flamingos and white-headed ducks. In order to investigate the potential radiation exposure to the environment and living organisms in the area, radon concentration levels and dose calculations were determined for water samples collected from 27 different points in Arin Lake. The radon levels were determined using the AlphaGUARD PQ2000 PRO radon monitoring system, which has the range of 2–2.106 Bqm−3. The results of the radon concentration measurements are between 0.06 and 0.39 Bq/L, with a mean of value of 0.17 Bq/L. The annual effective doses for ingestion (Deff-ing) and inhalation (Deff-inh) were calculated at values ranging from 0.14 to 0.99 µSv/year. The radon levels were found to be lower than international standard values. Furthermore, the outcomes of this research were subjected to comparison with other studies in the literature.

The Bulak cave is in the village of Bulak near Safranbolu city. It’s one of the longest caves in Türkiye, which goes 6 kilometers into the inside, but approximately 400 meters are accessible to visitors. You require a professional guide and special equipment to travel further into the cave with lakes, a waterfall, and rivers which are essential for cavers, tourists, and researchers. However, there are possible several health problems for cave visitors. This study mainly aims to measure the radon concentrations with the nuclear track CR-39 detector in the cave environment. Twenty-two detectors were distributed inside the tourist’s area, and another six detectors were in the cave’s deeper region. The exposure time was one month on 24 September 2020, in addition to two soil samples collected from the cave used for medical purposes. These detectors are collected after 30 days and then etched with a chemical solution. The radon concentrations were calculated, which ranged between 16.437 (Bq/m3) and 48.652 (Bq/m3) using an optical microscope from the track density in detectors. The minimum and maximum values of radiation indices AED (mSv/y), LCR (WLM), PAEC (mWL), Dsoft (nGy/h), Dlung (nGy/h) and Heff (nSv/h) are presented, and all results for the radon and radiation indices are within the global limit. Radon concentrations for two soil samples were 26.956 (Bq/m3) and 59.172 (Bq/m3), and all the results were within the acceptable limits recommended by ICRP and UNSCEAR. The XRF examination was performed, which indicated the presence of Fe, Cu, Zn, As, and Mn minerals with high concentrations of 101607, 552, 1337, 237, and 1601 ppm, respectively, which are all more than the world permissible limits. The XRD analyses for the soil sample indicated the presence of clay and non-clay minerals such as Feldspar, Quartz, Gypsum, Calcite, Palygorskite, Kaolinite, and Montmorillonite.

Aygır Lake is located in the province of Bitlis, Adilcevaz, in the east of Turkey. It is located on the south side of Süphan Mountain and is a tectonically formed lake. Since the waters of Aygır Lake are fresh, it is an important water source in terms of meeting the water needs of the agricultural areas in the south. For this reason, it was tried to determine whether the water of the lake would pose a health risk in terms of radon if it was consumed as drinking water and used in agricultural activities and fish farming. In the study, radon ( 222 Rn) concentrations, the annual effective dose rate (AED) and the amount of dose the stomach takes (SED) in the surface water samples taken from Aygır Lake were tried to be determined. For this purpose, water samples were taken from 13 different points in the lake. Saphymo Gmbh AlphaGUARD Professional radon monitor was used to measure the radon activities of the water samples. As a result of the measurements, it is seen that the radon concentrations vary between 0.15 ± 0.01 Bq L -1 and 0.71 ± 0.08 Bq L -1 . In addition, in the study, AED values ranged from 0.38 ± 0.03 nSv y -1 to 1.81 ± 0.20 nSv y -1 , while SED values ranged from 0.05 ± 0.00 nSv y -1 to 0.22 ± 0.02 nSv y -1 . When the results obtained are compared with the average international values, it is noticed that the results are below these values.
