“…To this end radioisotopes are commonly used tools, yielding quantitative measures of the organ distribution of a drug (Antar, 1990;Kung, 1990; Stocklin, 1992). Noninvasive imaging permits the time sequence monitoring of the distribution of a drug (Antar, 1990;Kung, 1990;Reba, 1993;Stocklin, 1992). However, radio nuclear images may suffer from limited spatial resolution, making it difficult to apply to laboratory animal models such as mice.…”

“…However, the present basic study suggests that myocardial scintigraphy with 123 I-BMIPP can be useful in evaluating myocardial energy metabolism, since myocardial 123 I-BMIPP uptake correlates with concentrations of triglyceride and ATP in myocardial cells, 10 as well as reflecting mitochondrial dysfunction in myocardial cells. 23 Dynamic studies are affected by regional blood flow, triglyceride pool, and back diffusion. Since abnormalities caused by IFN therapy were also observed in a dynamic study, the involvement of certain disorders caused by BMIPP, other than metabolic abnormalities of fatty acids, cannot be ruled out.…”

“…A great variety of fatty acids has been prepared and evaluated both for PET and SPET (for reviews, see Schelbert and Schwaiger 1986;Antar 1990, cf. also Second workshop on radiolabelled free fatty acids 1990).…”
