Radiomics Applications in Renal Tumor Assessment: A Comprehensive Review of the Literature

Abstract: Radiomics texture analysis offers objective image information that could otherwise not be obtained by radiologists′ subjective radiological interpretation. We investigated radiomics applications in renal tumor assessment and provide a comprehensive review. A detailed search of original articles was performed using the PubMed-MEDLINE database until 20 March 2020 to identify English literature relevant to radiomics applications in renal tumor assessment. In total, 42 articles were included in the analysis and di… Show more

“…A limited number of studies investigated the association between CT texture features and OS or PFS in RCC patients [ 46 ]. Goh et al [ 47 ] investigated the predictive power of CT texture features in the assessment of response to targeted therapy in metastatic renal cell carcinoma.…”

“…Timely and accurate identification of patients with high-risk of developing worse outcomes is crucial for their clinical decision-making. For renal cancer, radiomics has been widely applied to predict patient survival and cancer progression [ 34 ]. In this study, several radiomics features had prognostic value for OS, including sphericity, GLCM_correlation and GLDM_GLNU.…”

“…At present, the main research of radiomics approaches for RCC analysis is the renal mass differentiation and nuclear grade prediction [ 31 ], and few studies focus on the differentiation of SRCC and CCRCC tumors. To our knowledge, one study explored CT-based radiomics approaches to classify the SRCC and CCRCC tumors [ 14 ].…”
