Food Additives and Contaminants, 2010, 27 (04) The aim of the present work was to study the effect of electron-beam irradiation on 16 the production of radiolysis products and sensory changes in experimental high barrier 17 packaging films composed of polyamide (PA), ethylene-vinyl alcohol (EVOH) and 18 low density polyethylene (LDPE). Films contained a middle buried layer of recycled 19 low density polyethylene (LDPE), while films containing 100% virgin LDPE as the 20 middle buried layer were taken as controls. Irradiation doses ranged between 0 and 60 21 kGy. Generally, a large number of radiolysis products were produced during e-beam 22 irradiation even at the lower absorbed doses of 5 and 10 kGy (approved doses for food 23 "cold pasteurization"). The quantity of radiolysis products increased with irradiation 24dose. There were no significant differences in radiolysis products identified between 25 samples containing a recycled layer of LDPE and those containing virgin LDPE (all 26
