Radiological findings of primary retroperitoneal ewing sarcoma

“…On thyroid ultrasound, EoES of the thyroid appears as a nonspecific, well circumscribed, hypo-echoic soft tissue mass without tissue calcifications. CT scan is helpful in tumor staging, in identifying hemorrhage, necrosis, cyst formation or calcifications within the tumor, and evaluating response to chemotherapy [7]. MRI helps in delineating the extent of the soft tissue lesion and defining its relationship to the adjacent trachea, esophagus and neurovascular structures [8].…”

“…Commonly affected extraskeletal sites are the paravertebral spaces, lower extremities, head and neck, and pelvis [ 2 , 3 , 5–9 ] . Other rare reported locations of extraskeletal Ewing sarcoma are various and include the retroperitoneum, orbit, skin, and chest wall [ 10–13 ] . To the best of our knowledge, only one previous paper reported a Ewing sarcoma involving the abdominal wall [ 14 ] .…”

“…A variety of visceral locations have been reported [ 168 , 169 ]. Retroperitoneal extraskeletal ESs are rare [ 170 , 171 ]. Although the majority of cases are sporadic, germline mutations have been detected in around 10% of cases [ 172 ].…”
