Radiologic Analysis of Distal Radius Fracture Accompanying Spontaneous Extensor Pollicis Longus Rupture

Abstract: Financial support: None. Conflict of interests: None.Purpose: The spontaneous extensor pollicis longus (EPL) tendon rupture is a well-documented complication of non-displaced or minimally displaced distal radius fracture. Authors analyzed the radiographs of patients treated for closed EPL rupture after distal radius fracture. Materials and Methods:Twenty-eight patients (21 females, 7 males; average age of 58 years) with tendon transfer for spontaneous rupture of EPL after distal radius fracture were included. … Show more

“…Six cases had C-type fractures and one had an A3-type fracture, according to the AO-OTA classification system, necessitating operative manage-ment instead of non-operative management that is performed in cases, such as those associated with low energy trauma, non-displacement, and an intact retinaculum in vascular insufficiency EPL rupture [3,5,9,10,12,13]. Twenty-eight cases of spontaneous EPL rupture after non-displaced DRF have been experienced in recent years and reported at a district hand society in a different language [19]. The authors believed that the above-mentioned 2 mechanisms were different entities that occurred in different situations.…”
