Radioimmunoassays to determine the presence of progesterone and estrone in the starfish Asterias rubens

Abstract: RIA's have been made for progesterone and estrone with the antisera S74B7 and 7604-7 40, respectively, which will be described. The characteristics of the RIA for progesterone resemble those of other reported RIA's. The antiserum for the RIA of estrone is highly specific, with main cross-reactions of 0.32%. 0.27% and 0.13% for estradiol-17P, estradioLl7a and oestriol, respectively. The RIA for estrone is sensitive (affinity constant: 28.2 x 10" l/mol), with a standard curve in the range from 1 to 10 pg. Accura… Show more

“…Dieleman and Schoenmakers (1979) demonstrated by radioimmunoassay (RIA) the presence of progesterone and oestrone in these organs in agreement with earlier reports on the presence of progesterone (Botticelli et al, 1960(Botticelli et al, , 1961Ikegami et al, 1971) and of substances with oestrogen-like activity based on bioassays (Steidle, 1930;Donahue, 1940;Hagerman et al, 1957;Botticelli et al, 1960Botticelli et al, , 1961 in the ovaries of other echinoderms.…”

“…The sensitivity was 015 nmol/1 and the interassay coefficient of variation was 11% (n = 16). A correlation of r = 0-97 (7><0001) was observed for the comparison of the progesterone concentrations throughout the oestrous cycle of 5 cows as estimated by this RIA method with those as estimated by the method described previously (Dieleman & Schoenmakers, 1979;Dieleman eta!, 1986). …”

“…Progesterone concentrations were determined in plasma samples by the radioimmunoassay method described by Dieleman & Schoenmakers (1979). The intra-and interassay coefficients of variation were 11% and 4%, respectively.…”
