Summary. The androgenic status of female mice was assessed by measuring the concentration of testosterone-17\g=b\-glucuronide in serial samples of unextracted urine. The subcutaneous administration of testosterone (50 \ g=m\ g in lauric acid ethyl ester) resulted in a significant increase (P < 0\m=.\01) of the mean \ m=+-\ s.d. concentration of urinary testosterone-17\g=b\-glucuronide (25\m=.\9\m=+-\6\m=.\5 to 7 1 \ m = . \ 7 \ m = + -\ 12\m=.\9 ng/ml) within 2 h.The 2-h values after the administration of 50 \g=m\g androstenedione or 50 \ g=m\ g dehydroepiandrosterone were 22\m=.\8\m=+-\4\m=.\4to 81\m=.\8\ m=+-\ 7\m=.\8 ng/ml (P < 0\m=.\001) and 23\m=.\4\ m=+-\ 2\m=.\7to 121\m=.\8\ m=+-\ 20\m=.\3 ng/ml (P < 0\m=.\001)respectively. The values decreased progressively over the next 24 h.After the induction of superovulation with PMSG and hCG, the values for testosterone-17\g=b\-glucuronide increased significantly (P < 0\m=.\01)during the periovulatory period (5\p=n-\24 h after hCG injection). The mean \ m=+-\ s.d. value in pregnancy was higher (61\m=.\8 \ m=+-\11\m=.\6ng/ml; P < 0\m=.\001) than that in non-pregnant animals (30\m=.\7\ m=+-\ 12\m=.\3 ng/ml) and remained relatively constant between Days 1 and 16.
