Radiofrequency catheter ablation of atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia in children aided by the LocaLisa mapping system

Abstract: RF modification of the slow AV nodal pathway in children can be safely accomplished, achieving the ideal end-point of abolishing dual AV physiology, aided by use of the LocaLisa mapping system.

“…The LocaLisa system (Medtronic EP Systems, Minneapolis, MN, USA) is another nonfluoroscopic system that has been used for guidance of radiofrequency ablation. Kammeraad et al reported the use of this system to ablate AVNRT in children, with a mean fluoroscopy time of 16 minutes 15 . No comparison was made with regular fluoroscopic guidance in terms of fluoroscopy time, total procedure time, and final outcome.…”

“…The LocaLisa mapping system (Medtronic, Minneapolis, Minnesota) was routinely used for this purpose at 1 of the centers. In previous studies, we and others have demonstrated that this system is extremely accurate for continuous localization of standard intracardiac electrodes and, in particular, the His bundle over prolonged periods (25)(26)(27)(28). Individual RF lesions were also marked on the LocaLisa image (Fig.…”

“…Der Einsatz von nicht-fluoroskopischen Katheternavigationssystemen (z. B. LocaLisa®) erlaubt die permanente Darstellung von Elektrodenkathetern ohne Einsatz der Röntgenstrahlung und trägt so zu einer signifikanten Reduktion der Strahlenbelastung für die Kinder wie auch den Untersucher dar (Abbildung 2b) [7].…”
