Radiofrequency catheter ablation as a cure for idiopathic tachycardia of both left and eight ventricular origin

Abstract: Radiofrequency catheter ablation is an effective treatment for idiopathic ventricular tachycardia. The site of origin of tachycardia is best identified using pace mapping. Significant complications can occur and should be considered in the risk/benefit analysis for each patient.

“…The mean number of RF pulses in this study was 3.3Ϯ2.2, which is lower than the mean number of RF applications in most other large studies (varying between 5.5Ϯ7.7 and 8.1Ϯ11). 2,3,5,6 Mapping Phase 1 By comparing the VT QRS integral maps with the databases, the correct or an adjacent segment of VT origin could be identified in 14 of the 19 patients (74%). Thus, in most patients, body surface QRS integral mapping allowed for rapid initial localization of the region of interest.…”

“…However, the mean earliest activation time of the local ventricular signal or Purkinje potential in this study was 25Ϯ6 ms before the onset of the QRS complex on the surface ECG, which is in agreement with the findings reported in other studies. 1,3,4,6 …”

“…The efficacy of the catheter ablation in the two most prevalent entities of "idiopathic" VT reaches 90% for the right outflow tract VT (Fig. 1) when data from several series are compiled 12,13,14,15,16 , and is even higher, close to 100%, for the VT from the region of posterior fascicle in the left ventricle (Fig. 2 …”
