Karimunjawa islands are located in the middle of the Java Sea, approximately 83 km northwest of Jepara city. These islands have become an Indonesian marine tourism destination and since 2001 had been designated as a national park. The Indonesian government has chosen Muria peninsula in the district of Jepara, Indonesia as a site for a potential nuclear power plant (NPP). The purpose of this study was to determine the current level of radiocesium (137Cs) activity and forecast its spread if an NPP is operated at Jepara. To determine the distribution of 137Cs in Karimunjawa waters, a sampling of water was done in six stations. Simulation modeling was used to map the distribution of 137Cs should an NPP be constructed in Jepara. The results showed that 137Cs activity in Karimunjawa waters ranges from 0.12 to 0.39 mBq.L-1 with an average of 0.24 mBq.L-1. This value is slightly higher than previous studies in the coastal waters of Gresik, which had an average activity of 0.200 mBq.L-1 because the waters around Karimunjawa have a lower dilution rate than the coastal waters of Gresik. However, these values were considerably lower than those in the waters of Northeast Japan before the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident which registered 137Cs activity at 2-3 mBq.L-1.This indicates that 137Cs in Karimunjawa is not entirely from Fukushima rather from the global fallout. The 137Cs distribution model suggests that after 15 days, a leakage in the Muria Peninsula nuclear plant will not contaminate Karimunjawa waters because the current in the Java Sea is relatively weak and dominant in the westward direction. Thus, when an NPP leak only runs for 15 days, Karimunjawa waters remain safe.Keyword: 137Cs, Karimunjawa, NPP, modeling, Muria Peninsula

Operation of nuclear facilities such as research reactor and it's supporting installation in Serpong Nuclear Area may release controlled radionuclides to Cisadane River and then it would flow to Jakarta Bay. There are limited marine radioecology studies or radionuclides monitoring at Jakarta Bay. Therefore monitoring of 239/240 Pu and 137 Cs was carried out from Tanjung Pasir to Tanjung Kerawang. The ERICA Assessment Tool was used to evaluate radiological risk in the marine environment of Jakarta Bay area. The 137 Cs concentration in sea water and sea sediments were in range of 0.17-1.17 Bq.m-3 and 0.34-1.21 Bq.kg-1 , respectively. Moreover, result of 239/240 Pu measurement showed that concentration at sea water and sea sediment were range from < MDA-0.53 mBq.m-3 and 2.64-55.70 mBq.kg-1 respectively. The results of risk analysis were indicated that all the total dose rates per organism were millions time lower than the screening rate (10 mGy.h-1).

DESIGN, IMPLEMENTATION AND VERIFICATION OF SOFTWARE CODE FOR RADIATION DOSE ASSESSMENT BASED ON SIMPLE GENERIC ENVIRONMENTAL MODEL.Radiation dose assessment to determine the potential of radiological impacts of various installations within nuclear facility complex is necessary to ensure evironmental and public safety. A simple generic model-based method for calculating radiation doses caused by the release of radioactive substances into the environment has been published by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as the Safety Report Series . In order to assist the application of the assessment method and a basis for the development of more complex assessment methods, an open-source based software code has been designed and implemented. The software comes with maps and is very easy to be used because assessment scenarios can be done through diagrams. Software verification was performed by comparing its result to SRS-19 and CROM software calculation results. Dose estimated by SRS-19 are higher compared to the result of developed software. However, these are still acceptable since dose estimation in SRS-19 is based on conservative approach. On the other hand, compared to CROM software, the same results for three scenarios and a non-significant difference of 2.25% in another scenario were obtained. These results indicate the correctness of our implementation and implies that the developed software is ready for use in real scenario. In the future, the addition of various features and development of new model need to be done to improve the capability of software that has been developed.Keywords: Radiation dose assessment, software code, radioactive discharge, environment, IAEA SRS-19.
