Radio resource allocation with energy efficiency-throughput balancing for LTE downlink

Abstract: Energy consumption in wireless communication systems is increasing tremendously, wherein most of the energy consumedis by the evolved NodeBs in LTE network. Nowadays the research trend is majorly focused on Green communication which aims at reducing the Energy consumed in a network. In this paper, a radio resource allocation algorithm that is meant to balance energy efficiency and throughput maximization is proposed .The proposed algorithm is used to allocate Resource Blocks (RBs) to users considering the data… Show more

“…The performance optimization of a single objective protocol does not consider varying aspects of the vehicular network. However, in a practical real environment, a trade-off may exist between multiple metrics, such as delay and throughput [114], fairness and spectrum spatial reuse [115], energy and throughput [116], to name a few. Hence, there is a need to design CVN protocols, which considers these trade-offs to fulfill the requirements of a practical real environment.…”

“…The authors Sundari et al [18] implement a scheduler to improvise its performance, where they use service class for the bandwidth and resource allocation dynamically with the channel into consideration and offers better understanding as compared to the Round Robin (RR), Best Channel Quality Indicator (BCQI), Proportional Fair (PF) and Opportunistic scheduling. The research of minimizing the energy consumption by the eNodeB is an open research problem in LTE, In the work of Rebekka et al [19] utilizes the spectrum effectively in reduced energy using the suitably allocate the resource blocks so that even throughput improvises. The Model is benchmarked with the Round robin and Best CQI in terms of the performance metrics like throughput and energy consumption, and fairness.…”

“…This can be achieved by increasing the required bandwidth for each user data rate [14]. For instance, the work in [15] proposes a scheduling algorithm that analyzes the factors affecting transmission power. The proposed algorithm considers the throughput and fairness in a two-stage algorithm.…”

“…A fitness function is used to evaluate α with the constraints. It can be formulated as: (15) where the first constraint limits the objective function only to allow the user to utilize channel bandwidth within the maximum bandwidth specified by Shannon law. Besides, the second constraint controls the size of the delayed data.…”
