In Abschnitt 1 werden die physikalischen Eigenschaften, wie Leitf~higkeit, Dispersion, Absorption usw., quantenmechanisch fiir ein Medium aus freien Elektronen und Masseteilchen (positive oder negative Ionen, neutrale Atome oder Molekiile) untersucht, das sich in dem einfaeh periodischen elektr]schen Feld der einfallenden Welle und einem konstanten ~ul]eren Magnetfeld befindet. In Abschnitt 2 wird die Uberlegung auf das spezielle Problem der Ionosphere angewendet; hierbei ergeben sich allgemeine Formeln fiir Brechungsindex und Polarisation. Die genaue Auswertung der Ausdriieke fiir Dispersion, Absorption und Polarisation ist nur fiir ein ,,Ionosph~irenmodell", das aus Elektronen und positiven Ionen besteht, ausgefiihrt worden. Abschnitt 3 behandelt die mSglichen Zusammensetzungen und Temperaturen der oberen Atmosph~ire, wie sic sich bei einem Vergleich aus Beobachtung und Theorie ergeben. Im Schlul]abschnitt wird der Quantelungseffekt diskutiert, der yon dem ~ul3erenMagnetfeld auf die Elektronenbewegung in tier Ionosph induziert wird.Einleitung. Das Gebiet der Ionosphere zeigt w~hrend der letzten
