Radical Scavenging Activity against 1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl of Ascorbic Acid 2-Glucoside (AA-2G) and 6-Acyl-AA-2G.

Abstract: The radical scavenging activity of the stable derivatives, which are O-substituted at the C-2 position of ascorbic acid (AA), against 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) was evaluated in buffer under different pH conditions, and compared with those of AA and alpha-tocopherol. AA was shown to have 50% radical scavenging ability (EC50) at a concentration of 2.2 x 10(-5) M against 0.1 mM DPPH in 60% ethanol. Ascorbyl 6-palmitate, a lipophilic AA derivative which has a free endiol group and is therefore unstable,… Show more

“…DPPH radical scavenging activity The DPPH radical scavenging activity of the reaction mixture was evaluated (Fujinami et al, 2001). A 0.2 mL aliquot of 0.5 mmol/ L DPPH in ethanol was added to 0.8 mL of the adequately diluted reaction mixture or L-ascorbic acid as the standard.…”

“…at 0.4 mL/ min. The elution profile was monitored using the RID-10A refractometer.pH measurement The pH of the reactor effluent was measured at room temperature using a Horiba F-13 pH meter (Kyoto, Japan).UV-Vis absorption spectra The reactor effluents for GlcNAc and glucosamine were diluted 240 and 100 times, respectively, with distilled water to measure the UV-Vis absorption spectra at 200 to 350 nm using a Shimadzu UV-1600 spectrophotometer (Kyoto, Japan).DPPH radical scavenging activity The DPPH radical scavenging activity of the reaction mixture was evaluated (Fujinami et al, 2001). “…The calibration curve was constructed using standard BSA solutions. Every extract was assayed at least in triplicate.DPPH radical scavenging activity The DPPH radical scavenging activity of the defatted rice bran extracts was evaluated following the method reported by Fujinami et al (2001) with some modifications. Approximately 39.4 mg of DPPH was made up to 200 mL with ethanol.…”
