Radical resection of trigeminal schwannoma at the cerebellopontine angle with support of the digital robotic exoscope Synaptive Modus V system: A case report and literature review

Abstract: Rationale and patient concerns: We report on a 67-year-old woman who experienced drowsy mental status, facial numbness, and hearing loss on the right side; the symptom gradually worsened over the last 4 years. Brain magnetic resonance imaging revealed a 4.8 × 1.8 × 2.6 cm lesion located in the right cerebellopontine angle. “…In particular, in the case of cranial neurosurgery, the use of the exoscope has been widely described for the surgical treatment of brain tumors, both in adult and pediatric patients [20,30,[37][38][39][40], and only few papers have reported a comparison between the operative microscope and the exoscope for brain tumors [26,41,42]. In the study of Takahashi [43], published in 2018, 14 microneurosurgical procedures were retrospectively assessed by 9 neurosurgeons after the procedure by a questionnaire comparing the exoscope (ORB-EYE™) to the standard operative microscope.…”
